Lincoln Navigator: Automatic Transmission External Controls / Stay in Neutral - No Start. General Procedures
Activation
NOTE:
The following steps should be used when the engine will crank but not start.
NOTE:
If the vehicle has a discharged battery, an external power
source is required. If the battery discharges while in Stay in Neutral
Mode, the Park Lock Pawl Solenoid will release and transmission will
return to Park. Do not tow the vehicle in this mode.

Apply the parking brake.

NOTE:
Do not press the brake pedal.
Press the start/stop button.

Fully press and hold the brake pedal. Keep the brakes applied through step 7.

Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold through step 7.

Press the to N button twice on the GSM to enter stay in N mode.

Press and release the push to start button. The transmission needs a minimum of 2 seconds to exit P .

When N is displayed, release the brake and accelerator pedals.

To exit Stay in N mode, select a different gear.

transmission in Neutral during certain service procedures when the
engine cannot crank...
